Lt Colonel Duke Stanton was born and raised in Roanoke, Virginia. During his high school years he enlisted in the National Guard. Following high school, Colonel Stanton attended Virginia Tech and upon graduation entered the U.S. Marine Corps as a second lieutenant.
Lt Colonel Stanton served overseas away from his famly along with his numerous other deployments. He served in the Vietnam War where he flew over two hundred missions and has been recognized with multiple awards and distinctions including the Legion of Merit and the Distinguished Flying Cross.
A member of the Civil Air Patrol since 2000, he has commanded the Winchester Composite Squadron and Group 3. He is a Mountain Mission Pilot Examiner, an Evaluator for Mission Base Air Operations Branch Directors and holds numerous other qualifications within the Civil Air Patrol.
Lt Colonel Stanton has two girls by his first wife, who he lost to an illness, and has raised two stepsons (one served in Iraq and Bosnia and the other works for the Discovery Channel) by his second wife, Pat Stanton, who is also a Civil Air Patrol Member serving as a Mission Information Officer. Lt Colonel Stanton and his wife have thirteen grandchildren. |
